The ASOBAL records a record number of national team call-ups and reaffirms the competitiveness of its sports project.

The NEXUS ENERGY ASOBAL League faces the first break of the season with six teams at the top of the standings separated by three points, closing a month of October that has seen two teams win all their matches (Barça and Dicorpebal Logroño La Rioja), three records of three wins in four matches (Fraikin BM. Granollers, IRUDEK Bidasoa Irun and Cajasol Ángel Ximénez P. Genil) and the asterisk of ABANCA Ademar León, fifth 3 points from the top with one fewer match.

The competition shines with competitiveness, equality and talent as its identity marks. It has established itself as a growing product increasingly rich in alternatives and narratives, carefully worked on and off the court. It is a formula that combines the development of different professional structures, training work and the task of ensuring a scenario that enhances decision-making with the ball in hand. 

Representation and international recognition

There, the ASOBAL seal adds differential arguments. The call of the Spanish national team for this window of international matches is the latest proof of this. The NEXUS ENERGY ASOBAL League is these days represented in the national team by a total of seven players -Aleix Gómez, Dani Fernández, Ian Barrufet, Marcos Fis, Pablo Urdangarín, Mario Nevado and Álvaro Martínez-, from four different teams -Barça, Fraikin BM. Granollers, IRUDEK, Bidasoa Irun and Dicorpebal Logroño La Rioja-. for the first time in the last three seasons.

The elite of Spanish men's handball clubs continues, in this way, to strengthen its weight, projection and value within the international scene, being an important part of the training and competition dynamics of the Spanish national team.

In this international window, precisely, the debuts of Mario Nevado, Álvaro Martínez and Pablo Urdangarín stand out; and the first call of Marcos Fis since he is part of the NEXUS ENERGY ASOBAL League (he debuted last season still in the ranks of BM. Caserío Ciudad Real). Nevado is continuing in Irun the great version he showed from his previous stage at Viveros Herol BM. Nava, being able to alternate functions on the left side and the center of the static attack.

Álvaro Martínez has taken a definitive step forward this season with his signing for Dicorpebal Logroño La Rioja after a whole career in Valladolid, assuming gallons in the ASOBAL ecosystem. Martínez has become the leader of the Riojan project and the most in-form pivot of the NEXUS ENERGY ASOBAL League, being the top scorer of this October with an accuracy of 88% towards goal. 

Urdangarín, an evolution with ASOBAL seal

Pablo Urdangarín, on the other hand, has achieved international status after a meteoric evolution in the ranks of Fraikin BM. Granollers since his arrival at the Palau d'Esports in the summer of 2023. Technical laboratory work to mold his talent, physique and reading of the game that have led him to be one of the most versatile players in the NEXUS ENERGY ASOBAL League, making his own the position of right back, a role unheard of during his training stage.

A gradual journey, which he already reviewed in the last season of the 'Inside ASOBAL' deliveries, analyzing that reconversion, his moment in the ASOBAL competition, origins, motivations and objectives. Granollers and the NEXUS ENERGY ASOBAL League, a status that has led him to debut this Thursday with the Spanish national team with two goals and two assists against the Swedish team. 

The differential talent is not centered on a single player or club. ASOBAL has ensured that great performances, the sports show, is a quality that is signed by its 16 teams, as reflected in the list of award winners of the MVP of the day, which to date has seven winners from seven different clubs. The competition prepares its return to action with a day 8 that has, among other incentives, two direct duels from the top of the standings (Bathco BM. Torrelavega – IRUDEK Bidasoa Irun, Dicorpebal Logroño La Rioja-Fraikin BM. Granollers).

The attractiveness of the clashes is the consequence of ASOBAL's work in collaboration with its clubs to project itself as an attractive competition and a reference within the international scope. An ambitious vision, built step by step, which continues to expand its margins day by day.
