The players Albert Rocas, David Barrufet, Mateo Garralda, and Rafa Guijosa, together with the coach Manolo Cadenas, form the third generation of the ASOBAL Hall of Fame. With this new promotion, ASOBAL reinforces an initiative already consolidated as a reference space to preserve, recognize, and project the legacy of elite handball in Spain.
The ASOBAL Hall of Fame is not limited to sporting recognition, but has become a tool to connect the history of the competition with its present and future, highlighting the trajectories of those who have contributed to defining the identity of ASOBAL and the evolution of professional handball in our country.
Five careers that summarize different ways of achieving excellence in the history of ASOBAL and Spanish handball. The security and longevity of David Barrufet, a reference under the posts for two decades at FC Barcelona and one of the most awarded goalkeepers in world handball; the competitive leadership of Mateo Garralda, world champion in 2005 and double Olympic medalist after a career of almost 20 seasons at the top; the decisive impact of Rafa Guijosa, chosen Best Player of the World in 1999 and protagonist of the historic “Dream Team” azulgrana; the speed, efficiency, and regularity of Albert Rocas, double world champion with the Spanish team and one of the most decisive wingers of his generation; and the tactical and formative influence of Manolo Cadenas, a benchmark on the benches with decades of experience in ASOBAL.
Five profiles that are part of the living legacy of Spanish handball and can be known in depth at the official website of the ASOBAL Hall of Fame, the space that brings together the history and legends of the competition with the quality seal of the NEXUS ENERGY ASOBAL League.
In this third edition, the selection process started from a list of ten candidates chosen by the Commission of Merits and Rewards of the project, which also included Raúl González, journalist Luis Miguel López, Manolo Laguna (coach) and referee Ángel Sabroso. The final decision was made through a mixed voting system that combined the criteria of the specialized jury with the participation of the ASOBAL Community, reinforcing the open and participatory character of the initiative.
With these additions, the ASOBAL Hall of Fame continues to expand a record of legends with the ASOBAL seal, which already includes names such as Talant Dujshebaev, Enric Masip, Juanín García, Jota Hombrados, Juan de Dios Román, Ramón Gallego and Cecilio Alonso in the first edition, along with Alberto Entrerríos, Cristina Fernández Piñeiro, Lorenzo Rico, Valero Rivera and Veselin Vujović in the second.
