Miguel Ángel Martín has lived 48 hours with Hollywood features, being the big name of this last weekend after signing an outstanding performance in his first appearance with Carlos Ortega's Barça. Guadalajara emerged as the top scorer of the match with an individual card of 9 goals from 11 attempts (100% effectiveness from the 6-meter line and 6 goals in outside shooting situations).
A first-class staging, at just 17 years, 1 month and 24 days old, becoming the youngest debutant in the professional competition of the last four years, the 15th most precocious in the history of the elite of Spanish men's handball clubs. Martin showcased under the ASOBAL spotlights his enormous talent and his evolution in La Masia after arriving in Barcelona in the 2022/2023 season from San José Obrero (Lanzarote). Since then, he has expanded his range of resources and gained experience, which have led him to be an international in the lower categories of the Spanish national team and a member of the junior team that won the European gold this last summer.
"Since I was a child I had dreamed of being able to debut one day with this club. To do it now, scoring nine goals... it's an unforgettable day for me", says the player, included in the squad for the blaugranes' last-minute match. "It's all been very fast. I was in the room, studying, I had an exam, focused with my team, the youth team. I didn't expect to come here. I was very excited to be called to come and play here. On top of that, being able to play well has been unforgettable", adds the first line.
Martin's performance against Guadalajara allowed him to take the MVP award for matchday 7, a distinction that has been won this season by names of the stature of Carlos Álvarez (current MVP of the entire competition), Ferran Castillo, Xoan Ledo, Nacho Valles, Víctor Romero or Pau Guitart. He is the first player to receive the individual distinction on the matchday of his debut in the Plenitude League.
