The ASOBAL Handball and O Gatañal, the stage for the religious Mass of Frigoríficos del Morrazo, as life engines. Celia Fernández has been a fan of Cangas for more than three decades. "I live in Cangas and I have been a member of the Cangas Handball for more than thirty years. I started going with my father to the Romarigo pavilion when I was little and then, in O Gatañal, we have been for thirty years and there I involve my family, with my husband and my children", she points out, in an interview with the Galician club, by the hand of the ASOBAL League. Under the umbrella of the initiative that the elite of Spanish men's club handball and the Spanish Association against Cancer carried out in recent days - 'Bracelets of Hope', the fan tells a life experience, learning and passion for colors and tradition. "In 2013 I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma and two years ago my mother had breast cancer. The most important thing, when you have cancer, is positivity. Mood is very important. You have to face it with a lot of strength, be positive above all and with a desire to live", says Celia.
"Handball was important to me in the recovery process, I came to the field and forgot, for example, that they were giving me chemo. Here, in O Gatañal, you forget everything, you are with people, you get distracted and you don't think about the process. I also got very involved in an association that we have in Cangas that is for breast cancer, and that handball also collaborates with it", she explains, from the wisdom of experience and a commendable vital position.
"In the recovery process I always remember the anecdote that the club took us to Galicia television and wanted to give us a thank you for always supporting the team, and also in the difficult times we went through. I was with chemo and a colleague had lost her two children to cancer in four months. On TVG they gave us a plaque and a bouquet of flowers as a thank you. I will remember that all my life", she says, smiling. Celia tries to verbalize the Cangas feeling, defining a revealing parallelism. "The slogan of cancer is 'forbidden to give up' and the slogan of Cangas is 'In Cangas nobody gives up'. In life you have to be strong, we have to face all the good and bad things that happen to us. I just tell you: be strong and fight".
