This Tuesday, December 16, the results of the project “We are special, we recycle”, promoted by Ecoembes, ASOBAL and Balonmano Torrelavega, were presented at the Vicente Trueba Pavilion. This initiative was born with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of recycling at sports events and ensuring that packaging has a second life thanks to recycling.
Thanks to the involvement of the fans and the club, the project has allowed correctly separating 5,000 containers, which can be recycled and given a second life. As a recognition for this collective effort and the good results obtained, Ecoembes has donated 5,000 euros to the BM Torrelavega Foundation. The symbolic delivery of this check took place today during the event held at Vicente Trueba, highlighting the club's and its fans' commitment to sustainability and the well-being of the community.
Sport, sustainability and solidarity: a triple win
Throughout the first half of the current season, yellow containers (plastic, metal and brick packaging) and blue containers (paper and cardboard packaging) were installed in the Vicente Trueba pavilion to make it easier for fans to separate during the Bathco BM Torrelavega matches in the NEXUS ENERGY ASOBAL League. Informative and awareness-raising actions have also been developed, aimed at cleaning teams, volunteers, club staff and fans. For example, during halftime, the audience was reminded how to properly separate their containers.
In addition, the players of the first team have gotten involved as ambassadors of the campaign, encouraging fans to actively participate and demonstrating that handball can be a real engine of social and environmental change.
“This collaboration between Ecoembes, ASOBAL and Balonmano Torrelavega reflects our joint commitment to generate a positive impact on the environment and people's lives. In addition to improving waste management at the Vicente Trueba pavilion, we want to inspire fans to adopt sustainable practices at home. With this initiative, we have shown that we can work together with the fans to achieve a waste-free future”, highlighted Beatriz Aylagas, ESG coordinator at Ecoembes.
“At ASOBAL, we are very clear that sustainability is a strategic axis for both the present and future of professional handball. Initiatives such as 'We Are Special, We Recycle', in collaboration with Ecoembes, reflect the real commitment of our league, clubs and fans to the care of the environment, in line with our ASOBAL Legacy League project. The alliance with a strategic partner like Ecoembes, to whom we deeply appreciate their collaboration, allows us to continue advancing in the integration of good environmental practices in the pavilions, and shows that sport can be a key ally in building a more responsible society”, pointed out Servando Revuelta, president of ASOBAL.
Alberto Marchante, head of CSR at BM Torrelavega, thanked "all parties involved in the project (Government, City Council, Ecoembes and ASOBAL), as well as the club's own community (volunteers, fans, squads, ...) for their high degree of involvement in achieving the challenge. We are extremely satisfied to have contributed to changing the waste collection dynamics of the pavilion into what is now a reality that will last over time".
About ASOBAL Legacy League (ALL)
The ASOBAL Legacy League (ALL), launched by ASOBAL last season, represents a new competition model that complements the purely sporting classification of the NEXUS ENERGY ASOBAL League with a ranking based on the sustainable performance of the clubs. This pioneering initiative, awarded for its impact, has allowed to generate synergies with institutions and sponsoring companies, promote social innovation and make visible the teams' commitment to their environment. Thanks to this structure, ASOBAL has managed to transform sustainability into a tangible axis of its management, with measurable and assessable results that go beyond the sports field. The ALL articulates its evaluation around three fundamental pillars —social, environmental and economic sustainability—of governance— and it unfolds through cross-cutting and vertical criteria that range from transparency in management to the accessibility of the venues, through alliances with social entities, innovation, sustainable mobility and community projects.
