ASOBAL takes another step in its commitment to sustainability this Thursday and launches the ASOBAL Legacy League (ALL), a pioneering project in Spain that seeks to lead a positive change for the handball community and professional sport in terms of social, economic and environmental sustainability. The ALL is born as a complementary competition and in parallel to the sports dynamics of ASOBAL handball, which will allow its clubs to implement measurable and evaluable sustainability projects and actions, providing them with tools to grow vertically and transversely.
The ASOBAL Legacy League aims to inspire society and the community of the elite of Spanish handball through a ranking complementary to the purely sports classification, creating synergies so that handball transcends the pavilions, reaching more directly to the whole society and creating a legacy for future generations.
ASOBAL demonstrates, thus, its leadership not only in the sports field, but also in the institutional section, being a reference in sustainable matters. It is one of the only 8 entities adhered in Spain to the UN's Sports for Climate Action program and one of the only three handball organizations internationally in sports sustainability, along with the Handball Bundesliga and Füchse Berlin.
The ASOBAL Legacy League will officially start next January 2025. In the coming weeks, the details of its operation, project development, calendar, initiatives and activations associated with the ALL by ASOBAL and its clubs will be explained in depth.
Club Manifesto
The ASOBAL clubs have staged their commitment to the ASOBAL Legacy League (ALL) and sustainability in the environment of professional sports through the following manifesto:
“Today, December 11, 2024, the clubs of Liga Plenitude (one of the only four professional leagues in Spain, of which we are an integral part) firmly join the ASOBAL Legacy League project, a pioneering initiative in Spain that marks a before and after in the way of understanding sport and transcend beyond through a project that seeks to build a sustainable legacy for the Spanish handball community. Beyond the competition on the court, the ASOBAL clubs take on the challenge of leading a positive change, making sport a motor of sustainability in social, environmental and economic governance awareness.
The ASOBAL Legacy League is born as a complementary competition and in parallel to the purely sports one, which will allow the clubs to implement measurable and evaluable sustainability projects and actions, providing them with tools to grow vertically and transversely. ALL is not just a ranking; it's a commitment, that “whole” reinforced by a 360º vision in all those areas in which we will work. We want to inspire our local communities, give back to society the support we receive and show that sport can be a benchmark in environmental responsibility, social inclusion and professional management. This project seeks to make the Liga Plenitude ASOBAL a global model, where winning also means caring, including and respecting, both society and the environment.
With this initiative we aspire to build a closer and more conscious handball. We want every fan who crosses the doors of a pavilion to know that they are being part of something bigger: a transformation towards a sustainable future, with a direct positive impact on their way of living the passion for handball. From transportation to energy, from accessibility to education, every step we take will be a victory for all, a legacy that leaves a mark for future generations. This union goes beyond the clubs. We invite fans, sponsors, institutions and all of society to join this journey. Together we can make a difference and build an inspirational legacy so that ASOBAL continues to position itself as a professional league of reference in Spain and Europe. A legacy that begins on the courts and promotes a real change in the way we live sport”.
