ASOBAL joins ABANCA Ademar León at the gala dinner celebrating their 70th anniversary

ASOBAL was represented by its president, Servando Revuelta, and its general director, Fernando Corral, at the gala dinner that served as the opening of the commemorative events for the 70th anniversary of the founding of ABANCA Ademar León. The event, held this Tuesday at the Finca Valdemora in La Bañeza, brought together more than 300 representatives and personalities from the political and sports spheres, sponsors, players, technical staff, executives, and members of the ademarista family in an evening marked by recognition of the historic trajectory of the León club.

During the gathering, Servando Revuelta personally conveyed to the president of ABANCA Ademar León, Cayetano Franco, also vice president of ASOBAL, and to the club’s representatives the recognition and support of the professional league and the clubs that make up an entity “a benchmark in the history of Spanish handball,” highlighting its role over seven decades in the growth and consolidation of this sport both nationally and internationally.

Likewise, ABANCA Ademar León presented ASOBAL with a commemorative plaque as a token of recognition and gratitude for its close historical connection with the competition and its constant support of the club throughout its trajectory in the elite of Spanish handball.

The gala dinner marked the starting point of a broad program of activities organized by the club to celebrate its 70 years of history, an anniversary that highlights the sporting and social legacy of one of the most emblematic entities in Spanish handball.

70 years being part of the history of Spanish handball

This 2026, ABANCA Ademar León celebrates the 70th anniversary of its founding, an anniversary that will allow the value of seven decades of history linked to the growth and consolidation of handball in Spain to be recognized. Since its creation in 1956 from the initiative of a group of players from Colegio Marista San José, the León club has become one of the most emblematic and representative entities on the national scene, building an identity recognized for its competitiveness, social roots, and commitment to this sport.

Since its arrival in the top category in the 1993/94 season, the León club has played a leading role in the development of Liga ASOBAL and in the international projection of Spanish handball, consolidating itself as one of the historic benchmarks of the competition. Throughout its trajectory, ABANCA Ademar León has built an outstanding record both nationally and in Europe, with milestones such as winning Liga ASOBAL in the 2000/01 season, the two ASOBAL Cups (1998/99 and 2008/09), and the Copa de S.M. El Rey (2001/02), as well as its continental successes—achievements that placed the León team among the great references of Spanish and European handball.
