The Spanish Professional Handball Clubs League ? ASOBAL is promoting the development of its own OTT platform through the launch of a Request for Proposal (RFP), as part of its audiovisual strategy aimed at redefining the content distribution and monetization model, following the cessation of the LALIGA+ platform, scheduled for June 30.

In this context, ASOBAL begins a new phase of its transformation process, which it had already been working on, with the launch of a Request for Proposals (RFP) aimed at technology providers with the goal of developing its own OTT platform. This initiative seeks to provide the professional competition with a digital infrastructure that allows the direct exploitation of its content through subscription models (SVOD) and pay-per-view (PPV), as well as the distribution of the signal to third parties at national and international levels.

The exploitation model defined by ASOBAL will be hybrid in nature, combining non-exclusive free-to-air content ? aimed at maximizing reach and visibility ? with exclusive content under pay models, focused on direct monetization through the platform.

The project contemplates not only the development of an OTT platform but also the creation of a digital ecosystem that allows ASOBAL to improve access to its content, strengthen the relationship with fans, and optimize revenue generation channels. Likewise, the model will incorporate distribution capabilities to third parties, including national and international platforms and specialized operators, with the aim of expanding the reach of Spanish professional handball.

?This process is part of a medium- and long-term strategy aimed at strengthening the economic sustainability of the competition and adapting to new audiovisual consumption dynamics in sports,? says Fernando Corral, general director of the professional competition.

In parallel, ASOBAL has incorporated Zenon Sports Consulting as a strategic advisor in the audiovisual field. The firm, led by Julio Fariñas, former founder of Footters and former B2C audiovisual business director at LALIGA, will collaborate in the definition, structuring, and execution of the commercialization process of audiovisual rights.

The RFP has been sent to various providers in the sector, and the awarding process is expected to conclude in the coming weeks.
