ASOBAL and Ecoembes, a strategic agreement to boost the ASOBAL Legacy League.

ASOBAL has reached an agreement with Ecoembes, the environmental organization that has been promoting the circular economy through the recycling of packaging for 27 years, driving the social, economic and environmental sustainability project of the ASOBAL Legacy League (ALL). The agreement, effective from this upcoming day of the Plenitude League and until 2027, was staged this Wednesday at the main headquarters of Ecoembes and featured the presence of the director of Legal and ESG Affairs of the non-profit organization, Dorleta Vicente, and the president of ASOBAL, Servando Revuelta.

“We celebrate linking ourselves to an organization of the dimension of Ecoembes. It allows us to add more tools and experience to continue taking steps forward, as ASOBAL brand, with our firm social commitment, that of our clubs and within the ALL ecosystem," explains Servando Revuelta. The collaboration between entities is part of the Ecoembes project "Somos especiales, reciclamos", which seeks to promote the correct recycling of waste in the facilities and the matches held on the court of each professional competition club, achieving an environmental and social return, key point, directly linked to the global character of the ALL.

The project "Somos especiales, reciclamos" and, therefore, the agreement with ASOBAL, includes an economic donation to the social cause that each club decides, transforming the good practice of waste management generated in the Plenitude League matches -following a list of quantifiable challenges to follow- into tangible support for a solidarity work. "Thanks to this new alliance between ASOBAL and Ecoembes we will bring recycling of packaging to the world of handball with a proposal generating positive impact, environmental and also social. Because with the combination of circularity, solidarity and sport, we will be able to ensure that in the ASOBAL league we all win and the planet also wins," says Dorleta Vicente, director of Legal and ESG Affairs at Ecoembes.

The mechanism of action will start from ASOBAL, which will articulate with its clubs the different sustainable actions, from the physical, organizational and coordination plane, to the field of dissemination through marketing and communication campaigns, guaranteeing the promotion of waste collection. To make it possible, Ecoembes will provide ASOBAL clubs with paper and yellow bins -for plastic, cans and briks- and blue bins -paper and cardboard-, thus helping to separate the waste generated.

The work of Ecoembes

Ecoembes has been promoting the recycling of domestic packaging made of plastic, metal, brik, wood, paper and cardboard in Spain since 1997. Its purpose is to work for a future without waste through reduction, reuse and recycling, leaving a positive impact on society and the environment. In 2023, Ecoembes recycled almost 1.7 million tons of the packaging it manages, 3.5% more than the previous year. Ecoembes' activity is non-profit, it is regulated by Law 7/2022 and Royal Decree 1055/2022 and more than 19,000 companies trust it to make the recycling of their packaging possible. From 2025, Ecoembes will also be in charge of the management of commercial and industrial packaging, thus offering a solution to the new obligations set by the regulation for companies".
