ASOBAL acknowledges the career of Eduardo Romero after 37 years as a key figure in the Management of Competitions.

ASOBAL and its clubs wish to express their most sincere gratitude to Eduardo Romero Mey (Cádiz, 1959), who is retiring after 37 years at the helm of the ASOBAL Competitions Directorate, within the framework of a broad professional and personal trajectory linked to handball.

Throughout more than three decades, Eduardo has been a key figure in the evolution of ASOBAL, actively participating in all its stages and decisively contributing to its development. His deep understanding of the competition, along with his management skills and constant involvement, have been crucial in the growth of ASOBAL from the Association of Spanish Handball Clubs to its current dimension as a professional league, consolidating itself as a benchmark in the organization of national and international competitions.

In his career as Director of the Competitions Department, he has participated in the organization and supervision of more than 110 national and international competitions, including 36 editions of the ASOBAL League, 32 ASOBAL Cups, 29 King's Cups, 31 Spanish Super Cups and 3 European Super Cups, the latter in collaboration with the EHF. In addition, he is the only person linked to the organization who has been present in all editions of the ASOBAL League and the ASOBAL Cup, which underlines his constant contribution to the development of professional handball in Spain.

Beyond his strictly organizational work, he has made a significant contribution to the preservation of the memory of handball, promoting for more than a decade a multimedia space dedicated to rescuing, digitizing and disseminating iconic moments of our sport. In a completely altruistic way, he has recovered and preserved a valuable audiovisual heritage that, without his involvement, would have disappeared in many cases, allowing historic matches and key moments in the history of national and international handball to remain alive for future generations.

In this regard, the president of ASOBAL, Servando Revuelta, wanted to highlight: “From ASOBAL, its clubs and professionals we want to recognize and thank the extraordinary dedication and loyalty of Eduardo throughout all these years. His contribution has been crucial in the growth and consolidation of the organization, as well as in the professionalization and development of our competitions. His knowledge, his judgment and his understanding of this sport have been a reference within and outside of ASOBAL, leaving a mark that goes beyond the professional, transmitting his experience and knowledge to those who have worked by his side. Eduardo will always be part of ASOBAL. This will always be his home.”
