ASOBAL has activated a new edition of the Hall of Fame, an initiative with which the competition once again values the great figures who have marked the history of Spanish handball. Players, coaches and professionals who left their mark on the court and off it are once again at the centre of the league's recognition in this third edition of the hall of fame of professional Spanish handball.

Albert Rocas, Ángel Sabroso (Referee), David Barrufet, László Nagy, Luis Miguel López (Journalist), Manolo Cadenas (Coach), Manolo Laguna (Coach), Mateo Garralda, Rafa Guijosa and Raúl González. These are the candidates to be part of the third edition of the ASOBAL Hall of Fame. Ten names that have marked different stages in the history of the competition and five places up for grabs to continue expanding a project that values the talent of the elite of Spanish men's club handball.

Sporting excellence and reference careers in the nominees in the third edition

Albert Rocas: Former right winger and Spanish international with 179 international caps, Albert Rocas is one of the great references of the ASOBAL League. He played 16 seasons in the top Spanish competition, defending the colours of BM. Valladolid (2000-2003), Portland San Antonio (2003-2007), FC Barcelona (2007-2013) and BM. Logroño (2014-2017), and was included on three occasions in the ASOBAL League's Ideal 7 (2003/2004, 2006/2007 and 2007/2008). Along with Alberto Entrerríos, he is the only Spanish player who has won two world titles with the Spanish national team (Tunisia 2005 and Spain 2013). With a career full of national and international titles (1 European Cup, 1 European Cup Winners' Cup, 4 ASOBAL Leagues, 4 ASOBAL Cups, 3 Spanish Super Cups, 2 King's Cups), Rocas is consolidated among the nominees for the Hall of Fame after repeating his candidacy for the second consecutive season.

Ángel Sabroso (Referee): He is one of the great referees in the history of ASOBAL and an international reference. Sabroso, always part of Óscar Raluy, accumulated 18 seasons in the ASOBAL League (he debuted in the 2003/2004 season), 13 participations in the final phase of the King's Cup (2006/2007, 2008/2009-2013/2014, 2015/2016-2020/2021), 10 appearances in the Final4 of the ASOBAL Cup (2008/2009, 2010/2011, 2011/2012, 2014/2015-2020/2021) and 7 designations for the ASOBAL Super Cup (2009, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2018 and 2019). Together with Raluy, he has received the award for Best Refereeing Work in the ASOBAL League for ten consecutive courses (2010/2011-2019/2020) and has refereed in three Olympics (London 2012, Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2021).

David Barrufet: Icon of the ASOBAL League and One Club Man par excellence, he defended the colours of FC Barcelona for 20 seasons, becoming one of the most emblematic goalkeepers. He was part of the legendary "Dream Team" led by Valero Rivera, winning 7 Champions League and achieving glory with the Spanish national team in 280 international matches, including the 2005 Tunisia World Cup and bronze medals at the Sydney 2000 and Beijing 2008 Olympics. His club record includes 12 ASOBAL Leagues, 6 ASOBAL Cups, 12 Spanish Super Cups, 11 King's Cups, 2 European Cup Winners' Cups, 5 European Super Cups and 1 EHF Cup. Individually recognised, he was twice named World's Best Goalkeeper, twice named Best Goalkeeper in the ASOBAL League and received the Gold Medal of the Royal Order of Sports Merit from the CSD, consolidating his legacy as a true handball legend. After being present among the nominees in the first edition of the Hall of Fame, he is nominated again in the third edition.

László Nagy: He is one of the great right backs in the history of ASOBAL and international handball. Legend of the national competition after accumulating 12 seasons defending the colours of Barça. A total of 326 matches and a figure of 1,297 goals scored, with an average of more than 100 goals per season, being among the great scorers of ASOBAL handball. His record with the blaugrana team includes 4 leagues, 4 King's Cups, 4 ASOBAL Cups, 5 Spanish Super Cups, 1 European Super Cup, 1 EHF Cup and 2 Champions. He also achieved individual distinctions such as his work as best player of the ASOBAL Cup 10/11 and Best Player in the World in 2011. He also holds 6 Hungarian leagues and 6 Hungarian Cups and 2 SEHA Leagues, all with Veszprem. International with the Hungarian national team 209 times, with 749 goals.

Luis Miguel López (Journalist): Reference of Spanish sports communication, one of the most iconic voices of ASOBAL handball in the media and directly responsible for one of the great teams in the history of the competition. Luís Miguel López, 'Luismi', has rigorously and unmistakably broadcasted the matches of the ASOBAL League and the Spanish national team for 25 years for Radio Televisión Española (RTVE), as well as being sports director of the news on public television for eight years and narrating ASOBAL League matches for Gol Televisión. Luís Miguel López was also part of the internal structure of the ASOBAL ecosystem. He was general manager of BM. Ciudad Real and BM. Atlético de Madrid, being one of the main responsible for the successes and the configuration of legendary squads in the history of ASOBAL and international handball.

Manolo Cadenas (Coach): Manolo Cadenas has been a coach for 26 seasons in the ASOBAL League, from his first adventure in G.D. Teka to his last stage in Ademar de León, passing by BM. Valladolid, FC Barcelona and also BM. Granollers. His beginnings in the elite are located on the bench of Naranco de Oviedo, in the Honour Division (1986/1989). He has been part of the ASOBAL Ideal 7 on 4 occasions (2003/2004, 2006/2007, 2010/2011 and 2019/20) in a record that includes three European Cup Winners' Cups, 1 ASOBAL League, 2 ASOBAL Cups, 1 Spanish Super Cup and 1 King's Cup. He was Spain's national coach from 2013 to 2016, winning bronze at the Denmark 2014 European Championships and silver at the Poland 2016 European Championships. For the second consecutive year, he occupies a space among the nominees to be part of the ASOBAL Hall of Fame after being present for the first time in the 2025 edition.

Manolo Laguna (Coach): Manolo Laguna developed an extensive career on the benches of the ASOBAL League, with a total of 10 seasons in the top category of Spanish men's club handball. His journey began at BM. Guadalajara (1991/1992), before moving to Juventud Alcalá and consolidating at BM. Torrevieja, where he coached the team for seven consecutive seasons (2005/2006 to 2011/2012). His profile as a long-term elite coach reflects a career of continuity and construction of sports projects in Spanish handball. He was already among the nominees in the first edition of the ASOBAL Hall of Fame, which reinforces his continued presence in this recognition.

Mateo Garralda: The right back played a total of 19 seasons in the ASOBAL League wearing the shirts of BM. Granollers, Atlético de Madrid, G.D. Teka, Barça, San Antonio, Ademar León and Guadalajara at the end of his career, being part of great achievements in the national and international scene (8 ASOBAL Leagues, 2 ASOBAL Cups, 3 Spanish Super Cups, 3 King's Cups, 6 European Cups, 3 European Cup Winners' Cups, 1 EHF Cup and 4 European Super Cups. He played 463 ASOBAL League matches and reached the figure of 1834 goals. He wore the shirt of the Spanish national team in 233 occasions and was World Champion in Tunisia 2005, as well as double Olympic medallist by achieving bronze in the 1996 and 2000 Olympics. In his stage as a coach, he has directed in ASOBAL two seasons to BM. Guadalajara. After being selected among the nominees for the 2025 Hall of Fame, Mateo repeats his presence among the candidates.

Rafa Guijosa: Former left winger and Spanish international (119 international caps), Rafa Guijosa scored 1,056 goals in 231 matches of the ASOBAL League over 10 seasons, shining with BM. Guadalajara, Juventud Alcalá and especially FC Barcelona, where he was part of the mythical "Dream Team" blaugrana and achieved his greatest sporting successes. Named IHF World Player of the Year in 1999, his club record includes 9 ASOBAL Leagues, 5 ASOBAL Cups, 9 Spanish Super Cups, 6 King's Cups, 5 European Cups, 2 European Cup Winners' Cups, 4 European Super Cups and 1 EHF Cup. At the national team level, he highlights the Olympic bronze in Sydney 2000. After his playing career, Guijosa also left his mark on the benches, directing BM Alcobendas and Ademar León, where he was included in the ASOBAL League's Ideal 7 as a coach in two consecutive seasons (2015/16 and 2016/17). This is the third time he has been among the nominees, after being present in the previous two editions, consolidating his status as a living legend of Spanish handball.

Raúl González: Current coach, Raúl González is one of the great national players in the history of ASOBAL handball. He started playing in the elite in the 89-90 season with ADC Michelín. He played a total of 15 ASOBAL Leagues wearing his colours, first as ADC Michelín and later as Club Balonmano Valladolid. He was ASOBAL Cup Champion in the 2001-2002 season and King's Cup Champion in the 04/05 season, the season of his retirement ending a great career always in the same club. Internationally with the club he reached the EHF CUP Final in the 98/99 season that he lost against the German VFL Gummersbach, one of the greats of Europe. With the Spanish national team he was international more than 50 times and won the silver medal at the 96 European Championships and the Olympic Bronze in Atlanta 96. After retiring he started coaching under the direction of another member of the 'ASOBAL Hall of Fame', Talant Dujshebaev, in BM. Ciudad Real and BM. At. Madrid, then becoming first coach of RK Vardar and Paris Saint-Germain. He is currently the Serbian Handball National Coach.
